MURS, or Multi Use Radio Service, is an unlicensed radio service in the VHF band that, similar to FRS. Most commonly used by those needing to communicate within short distances. MURS is also limited to 2 watts power and cannot use repeaters.
One of the major differences between the Multi Use Radio Service and the Family Radio Service is the allowed use of removable antennas. This means that if you are using your radios in a vehicle, or in a structure like a hunting cabin, you will be able to place an antenna on the exterior to improve your communications, something that is not allowed with FRS.
Factors like max output and whether or not a removable/external antenna is permitted are just some of the things to consider when you are deciding on a radio service.
